Distance Training: Week of April 14, 2025

Hey all, it has been a crazy day, so this will be short and sweet!

I. News & Announcements

We have the Davis Invitational this Saturday. This is a limited entry meet with floating qualifying times. What that means is that they take the fastest “X” number of runners in each event (see below). Some are put in the first “invited” section, the rest are put in the open heats of a race. Here are the numbers that they’re accepting:

800m Run 52 total entries / 14 invited section
1600m Run 84 total entries / 16 invited section
3200m Run 26 total entries / 20 invited section

So, that means if you have one of the fastest 52 (800), 84 (1600), or 26 (3200) seed times, you will be able to run in the meet. Otherwise, you won’t be eligible. We’ll know at some point on Tuesday who is in. There’s a possibility that there will be some cancellations and people might get in late, but I wouldn’t bank on it.

Based on past years, for boys, if you’ve run sub-5:00 in the mile and/or sub-10:00 in the 3200M, you have a good chance of getting into the meet. Otherwise, chances are probably slim. For girls, 5:30 in the 1600M and sub 12:20 in the 3200 will probably get you in. In the 800M, boys who have run around 2:00 will probably get into the invited section, as will girls who run sub-2:30.

If you’re not likely to get into the Davis Invitational, there is a quad meet on Thursday that you can run in. If we have runners who will be running in this meet, we will adjust the workout schedule for those individuals. Otherwise, our group will probably follow the same training schedule this week.

Currently, this is who I have registered at Davis:

RunnerRace
Martin Honl (must finish Register My Athlete!)800M
Aaron Eskelson1600M
Nate Eskelson1600M
Carson Fershtut1600M (assuming wisdom teeth removal is good)
Mason Smith1600M
Jeffrey Hazard800M (pending final discussion)
Lily Griffith3200M (pending final discussion)

Lily G and Jeffrey — I still need to know what race you want to run. Tentatively, I have Jeffrey registered in the 800M and Lily G in the 3200M.

II. Weekly Training

Here is this week’s training. As discussed, we may need to adjust it for some pending their racing schedule.

III. Other/Points of Emphasis

No video this week. Today was too busy. We’ll talk at practice tomorrow.
