Preseason Parent Meeting

We had a tremendous turnout at our preseason meeting tonight! Thank you!!

We are passionate about track and field and the kids who come out and compete, and are so excited to see so many looking forward to give their very best!

I. Video of Preseason Meeting

For those who couldn’t make it, or for those who arrived late, or just want a refresher, we have put a video of the meeting on our new team YouTube channel.

II. Forms

Additionally, all the forms that were handed out at the meeting are available for downloading below. If you and/or your child complete the eligibility contract and/or permission slip, please return completed copies to either Coach Harwood or Coach Hutchinson. This can be done in person. You can also email electronic copies of the signed forms to: [email protected].

Here are the forms:

Eligibility Contract (must be signed and returned)

Permission Slip (for parents who want their child to be able to drive themselves to and from meets).

Schedule (please note that the schedule is also available online and in calendar form).

III. Important Upcoming Dates

Here are some upcoming dates to be aware of:

February 14, 2025. Deadline to order sprint suit uniforms from the team store to ensure they arrive prior to the first meet. Please talk to Coach G or see the discussion of uniforms below for more details.

February 18, 2025. First day of practice. We will start at 2:30 PM. We meet at the Northeast corner of the track at Northridge High School, unless weather dictates otherwise, in which case we usually meet in the Excalibur Room. We practice in all weather, so come prepared for each day!

February 28, 2025. The team store closes. Get your orders in before the end of the month!

March 12, 2025. By March 12, all athletes wanting to compete in the first meet of the year must be signed up on Register My Athlete, WITH A CURRENT PHYSICAL. They must also have paid all required fees. Please, please, please take care of this early!

March 13, 2025. Our first meet of the season!

IV. Uniforms

Once they have completed their registration on Register My Athlete and have paid their fees, athletes will be issued a uniform. For boys, the uniform will include gray shorts and a white Northridge jersey. For girls, the issued uniform will include only the jersey. Girls will provide their own black shorts. The issued uniforms must be returned clean, freshly laundered, and in good condition. If a uniform is not returned at all, or is returned dirty or in poor condition (normal wear and tear excepted), the athlete will be charged a replacement fee.

As mentioned during the meeting, if sprinters want a sprint suit, they should order them by no later than February 14, 2025, to make sure they will have them by the first meet. Also, if sprinters want to wear a speed suit in a relay, many meets (including the state meet) require that the relay team wear the same uniform, so the relay team members will need to each have their own speed suit (or have one they can borrow). Please talk to (or message on Remind) Coach G about this ASAP if you have any questions.

V. Register My Athlete

Speaking of Register My Athlete…many of you will have done this before. But if this is your first time, we have prepared a guide walking you through the process of registering your son or daughter. This was prepared for last season’s cross-country registrations, but it is the same for track and field.

It is not difficult, though it takes some time the first time you do it. The thing that takes the longest is the physical…so please be on top of that to avoid inevitable last minute delays!

VI. Remind

As mentioned during the meeting, due to district policy, we are switching our team communication platform from Slack (athletes) and Parents (GroupMe) to Remind.

Each athlete will be a member of at least TWO Remind classes — the main class (NHS Track & Field) and their specific event(s) class(es). Parents will be on a separate Remind class. Here are the links to join the applicable classes once everyone has Remind installed:

Main Track and Field Class (for ALL athletes)

Parents Track and Field Class

Sprinters (100M, 200M, 400M)

Boys Middle Distance (400M, 800M, 1600M)

Girls Middle Distance (400M, 800M, 1600M)

Distance (1600M, 3200M)

Jumpers (High Jump/Long Jump)

Throwers (Shot, Discus, Javelin)

If you’re uncertain about your event, or which class to join, you can message one of the coaches directly on Remind, or just join only the main group until you determine your event. If you want to compete in more than one discipline (e.g., sprinting and jumping, or mid-distance and distance) then feel free to join all applicable classes.

VII. Team Store

The team store will be open until the end of February. Here is the link:

https://stores.inksoft.com/northridge_tack_field_team_/shop/home

Nothing is required, but students and their supporters are welcome to purchase items from the store. Purchases do support their team.

I think that’s all for now — we’re looking forward to a great season! Please feel free to reach out with any questions you might have!

VII. Website

As mentioned, our website is a work in progress, but we plan on using it quite a bit during the season. Feel free to look around and check back regularly for updates!
