Another week in the books, with some really good training and great performances. Congratulations to everyone who competed this past weekend at the Farmington Super Meet — our athletes did really well. Another meet this week — the Davis County Championship meet at Syracuse High School on Tuesday (25th) and Wednesday (26th). Then we have about 10 uninterrupted days, which will be one of our most important training periods of the season. I’m really excited, and I think our athletes are all encouraged.
I. News & Announcements
A. Farmington Super Meet.
All our athletes competed at the Farmington Super Meet meet this week. Evelyn Cook competed in the 1600M and the 800M, and Lily Griffith ran in the 1600M. Both set big PRs, with Evelyn running a 5 second PR (5:16.79) and Lily a 14 second PR (!!) (5:30.44). Evelyn took 3rd place overall and Lily finished in 7th place. Evelyn also came back with a tough 800M double later in the meet and finished in 2:40.79.
On the boys side, Aaron, Nate, and Jeffrey competed in the 800M, with Jeffrey dipping under 2 minutes for the first time in an open 800M, finishing in 1:59.52, good for second place overall. Aaron finished in 2:01.89 (~4 second PR) and Nate finished right behind in 2:02.20, which were good for 6th and 7th overall, respectively. Eric Greding, who is training middle distance with Coach Tueller also competed and finished in 2:00.14 in his first outdoor race of the season (coming off an injury at the state XC meet). The 800M is definitely a shock to the system, but these guys ran really well, especially for their first 800M race of the year. Carson ran in the 1600M, and came agonizingly close to breaking that sub-5 minute barrier, finishing in 5:01.97! We all know he’s ready to break through, and, are confident that as soon as he does the times will only drop further from there.
Here are some photos from the meet. Sorry I didn’t get any of the boys running in their 800M. I was too busy calling splits and trying to run back and forth. I was running while trying to watch the race and crashed into a guy in the middle of the field. It was quite embarrassing. Other photos from the meet are available in the team photo gallery.

B. New Teammates!
We want to officially welcome Martin Honl and Mason Smith, students at Layton Christian Academy, to the Northridge distance/mid-distance squad. Martin is from the Czech Republic, and will be focusing on the 800M, while Mason lives in Riverdale (but coming most recently from Iowa) and will be focusing on the 1600M and 3200M. We are excited to have them!
Martin and Mason — please get your Register My Athlete completed ASAP so that we can enter you in races!
C. Davis County Championships.
This week we have the annual 2-day Davis County Championship meet at Syracuse High School. This meet is open to all 5A and 6A schools in Davis County and will have some great competition. It is a top-4 meet, with the exception of an unseeded 100M and 1600M. I will be talking with all of our athletes about competing at the meet and which races they want to do. Here’s what I currently have:
Aaron, Nate, and Jeffrey
I have each of you signed up in the seeded 1600M on Tuesday and seeded 3200M on Wednesday.
Carson
I have you signed up for the unseeded 1600M on Wednesday. Let’s talk about other race options for you on Tuesday.
Lily Griffith
I have you signed up in the seeded 3200M on Wednesday. Lily, let’s talk about whether you want to run a 1600M on Tuesday, an 800M double (might be too close together), or whether there might be the option of a 4x800M team that Coach Tueller is putting together for Tuesday.
Evelyn Cook
Evelyn, the Tuellers will be working with you to plan your race schedule, but I think they have you in an 800M and 1600M.
Mason Smith
Mason, assuming you can get your physical finalized on Tuesday, I have you set to run in the unseeded 1600M on Wednesday. You told me you’re unavailable to compete on Tuesday, but if that changes let me know and we’ll see if we can find an additional race for you.
Martin Honl
Martin, my understanding is that you are training through until Arcadia, but if you can get Register My Athlete complete and want to race, let me know.
PLEASE NOTE: The meet information, schedule, and results can be found on SportTrax: https://sporttrax.com/meets/531
D. Spring Break.
Next week is Spring Break. I’m sure some of you will be going out of town. Spring Break gives us an uninterrupted week to train, which is a rarity during track season. Whether or not you are going to be around, it will be important for you to get your training in if at all possible. Please make every effort to do so. If your travel plans make it impossible, we will adapt. Let’s talk about this on Monday so we can plan effectively.
II. Weekly Training
This is a rare week where we won’t need two tracks of training. Since all athletes (with the exception of Martin) will be racing midweek, we will do a pre-race run on Monday, the meet on Tuesday and Wednesday, recovery on Thursday and Friday, and we will meet again Saturday for another workout.
Then next week we have a full week to get some solid training in before the Taylorsville Invitational on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
This week’s training can be found here: https://northridgetf.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Weekly-Training-032425.xlsx
Mason — I know that you are not planning to race on Tuesday. Do the pre-race Monday and Tuesday. Extra strides won’t hurt! 😉
Evelyn, Amy, & Riley — as always (and as you know) the Tuellers plan Evelyn’s training and will provide her workouts. But we want you to still feel a part of the distance squad!
III. Other/Points of Emphasis
Please view this week’s video. I know I got last week’s training out late, but I think only one other person viewed the video. Thanks!
